Fellow – Fred Hosken

Fred Hosken is a PhD candidate in music theory and cognition, investigating the perception and production of “groove.” The experiences I have had while working as a consultant at the Writing Place have helped me develop an extensive toolkit of skills that I will carry throughout my career. Through working with writers from a range of disciplines on everything from Fulbright applications to class projects, job materials to portfolio websites, I have had the opportunity to practice the craft of research communication while also learning about fascinating pieces of research outside my research bubble. My favorite experience is when I get the chance to work with a writer multiple times and see a piece grow from the bravely shared knotty thicket of early ideas into a genuinely enjoyable finished product.
