I’m a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Anthropology. As an archaeobotanist, I focus on ancient plant remains archaeological sites, although this work borrows concepts from a variety of fields including Anthropology, African Studies, and Food Studies. My dissertation research focuses on Zanzibari cuisine and identity during the medieval period as understood through ancient plant remains from four archaeological sites in the Zanzibar Archipelago. At the Writing Place, I hope to help other graduate students work through common anxieties and insecurities throughout the writing process.
